San Antonio WIC Program

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) in San Antonio is designed to help pregnant mothers, new mothers and young children meet their nutritional needs. WIC provides free vouchers for nutritional foods, which are redeemable at San Antonio grocery stores. Additionally,the  San Antonio WIC program offers nutrition counseling, breastfeeding support and health care referrals at no cost.

Who Qualifies for WIC?

WIC participants must be pregnant women, postpartum women (within six months of delivery), breastfeeding women or children under the age of 5 living in Bexar County who are "determined to be at nutritional risk."

To qualify for WIC, make an appointment and bring identification, proof of income, proof of residency and any children you are enrolling in WIC.

What Does WIC Provide

Most major San Antonio grocery stores honor WIC vouchers. These foods are not intended to be a complete diet, however they will provide much of the basic nutrition your preschooler needs.

WIC also offers nutritional counseling, breastfeeding support and referrals to other health care agencies in San Antonio.

After enrolling in WIC, you will attend periodic appointments with at your WIC office to make sure your children are receiving the proper nutrition they need.
